Packet Fountain and SelfWorld

Packet Fountain reflects on architectural-size displays (mostly through light) the life of the networks (WiFi, bluetooth, ethernet, GSM cell phones) and thus of the humans. The way Packet Fountain presents the data is through colored visual vibration.

By using Alpha - Beta - Gamma waves in form of light vibrations between black and a chosen color, Packet Fountain tries to communicate to humans on a sub-conscious level some information about the environment.

A rough description: A very personnal and sensually charged performance was being filmed in Strasbourg, transmitted (both audio and video) to a person strapped into a sensor suit in Marseille. The guy, seeing -and physiologically reacting- to the performance was monitored for cardiac rythm, pupil activity, breath activity and so on. These sensor data were then sent to Paris to animate a network of sound and light emitting device, reflecting the sensory activity. Sound, physical and architectural activity there were recorded too to get the mass reaction of all the people inside the exhibition. All this creation of sound and lights was then sent back to Strasbourg, influencing the performer, creating thus a sensory loop.

The experiment was so successful because you could see and live as a human being the sensory perception of a single person, a group of people and a building (!) at the same time, mixed into a multi-layered experience that could not be explained or understood. (This is actually the first time such explanation is undertaken). The light and sound in Paris used Alpha/Beta frequencies to mirror the personnal states of performers and public. Thus, the communication took place only on a deep-structure basis, withtout any reference to language, touching the same way people from all culture and countries.
